I see a lot of different business owners making the now classic ‘I’m in a car’ video. This is usually to announce their attendance of a meeting or at the start or the end of a long journey.

I don’t know about you, but I find some (certainly not all) of these videos irritating and frankly pointless. So I’ve put together a few points to help you create meaningful and worthwhile videos both inside and outside of your beloved vehicle.

My first point is obviously to give some value. It’s pointless just saying that you’re at a meeting (nobody cares) so try and give a helpful tip or answer a question that someone has asked. Make the viewer feel that watching your video is worthwhile and not a waste of time. If you don’t give value you’re not only wasting the viewer’s time, you’re wasting your own because nobody will bother watching your videos.

The second point is to get out of the car now and again. Make an effort to show/do something interesting. Sure you can shoot within your car as it’s convenient, you’re not doing anything else and if you do the video properly you’ll give value, but mix it up now and again.

Thirdly, make an effort with the editing. If your videos look interesting you’re likely to attract more viewers and keep them watching for longer.

Lastly, always have a call to action. It doesn’t matter if it’s just asking for a like or a share, just make sure that your viewer does something as a consequence of watching your video. If you don’t tell them to do something they’ll soon be onto another video or another piece of content. We want them to stick with you!

I’d love to know the latest video you’ve made, so put a link in the comments below. (Even if you were sat in your car…)
