Getting more subscribers on YouTube seems to be a big worry for most people who make videos. It’s the same sort of thing as Twitter followers, Facebook Likes and Instagram followers.

Although it’s nice to have hundreds or thousands of subscribers, at the end of the day it’s a little bit pointless. What you should be worried about is what your viewer does next. Are they engaged enough to click a link? Are they going to share your video? Are they likely to take the next step?

I agree that one of those steps might be subscribing to your content, that’s how you keep people engaged, if they’re reminded when you add a new video. But don’t get too hung up on the AMOUNT of subscribers you have. Concentrate on the journey you want your viewers to take.

But first concentrate on making outstanding content.
